In 1864 the Battle of Olustee was fought. By 1864 Florida was supplying almost all the beef for the Confederacy in the east along with cotton, turpentine and timber. The northern troops left Jacksonville and met Confederate soldiers near Olustee Station in Baker County. When the battle began, each side had about 5,000 men and after the six hour battle each side had lost about 1,000 soldiers. The South won the battle and the North never did stop the supplies from getting to the Confederacy. This was an important victory for the South.
